5th Official own-age.com Video Editing Contest

Contest Time: December16th, 2007 - March 15th, 2008

Your videos must meet the requirements in order to be legible to win.

a. Rules
-requirements of your video-

[1].. All videos must be submitted no later than the specified contest end date. They must be submitted between March 1st and March 15th of 2008 (see end of the thread for more explanations).

[2].. Your video must have a runtime of no shorter than 3:00 minutes and no greater than 7:00 minutes (ie movie length except intro and outro)

[4].. All video submissions must have an intro and outro of some kind.

[5].. The regular restrictions to movies submitted on own-age.com apply, it includes (but is not limited to): NO pornographic material of any kind, NO copyrighted material (still image and video) from movies, music videoclips or any other material of that kind.

[6].. There can be only one submitter, but there can be different editors for a single movie.

[7].. No stealing of anyones material will be permitted. If you use someone's demo, let it be known, and be sure that person agrees with that. Even if content is not judged, if anything is supposed to be known about the footage (staged footage for frags, cheated moves for tricks, etc), let it be known.

[8].. Include an own-age.com promo picture somewhere in the video (be creative, maybe it can be made part of the movie itself). It must be original and done by yourself (or someone helping you). It must be full-sized, visible, and easy to read, and last at least 2 seconds. Of course no advertisement except for own-age.com, and the editor's personal sites (your clan site or editing team official website is allowed, but no other gaming movie site).
It must clearly state the movie was submitted for the own-age.com 5th editing contest.

[9].. Videos must be submitted on own-age.com at first, and not be published anywhere else on the web before the winner is decided. This is an own-age.com contest and videos will be property of own-age.com until the contest has ended. Afterwards, you may submit it to any website you wish, but any submission to any other site will result in disqualification. The details of the submission will be given later, in this news or a new one.

[10].. Be original. You can duplicate specific effects from previous videos, but it won't be a good point for you. Remember the judges have seen a lot of movies, and you will be easily spotted.

[11].. Only one video submission per person.

[12].. Admins and judges can submit a movie for the contest but they can't win.

[13].. If there are not enough submissions or the admins think the quality of the contest doesn't meet our expectations, the contest might be canceled, or the submission period might be increased.

b. Guidelines
-helpful hints-

• Compression - Keep your video compression ratio at a reasonable size. Tips for compression techniques can be found in the forum (and you can find some useful links in my signature). Also keep in mind that some people still have poor computer (including me, 1Ghz processor...), and can't watch HQ movies fluently, so think about them (you can consider making a HQ and a LQ).

• Quality - If you can't tell what is happening, RENDER IT AGAIN. Better quality means for better scoring.

• Content - Use what you think is high quality content. It is not a content contest, but poor content will disadvantage you. If you can't find good content, ask in this forum for some.

• Creativity - If your video is dull. Expect a dull score.

c. Your .zip or .rar
-what you need to include-

[1].. Include all .psd/other Project files used to create your video. We do not want stolen images to be used and therefore your artwork must be original.
[2].. The video itself. If this is not included, you will be pummeled by the whole community on the public place.

[3].. A "READ_ME.txt" file that includes the following information:
a. Credits
b. Codec used (both audio* and video)
c. Information about the video (i.e. length, size, etc.)
d. Music used (DO NOT INCLUDE THE MUSIC FILES IN YOUR ZIP/RAR!!!!!!!!)
e. You must put: "This video was submitted for the 5th Official own-age.com Video Editing Contest."
f. Any/All websites where you found the demos you used if they were not your own.
g. any other information you wish to disclose.

d. Judging
-what will be judged-

The following categories will be judged:

Quality/Compression
Video Editing
Creativity

The movies will be judged by some admins, and probably some regular users. Any judge can decide not to judge a movie because he might be influenced (he knows the editor...), in that case the movie will be rated without his opinion.

e. Prizes
-what you get for being part of this and winning-

All the editors here will have some special advertisement on the site. They will also get a complete feedback from the judges and the community.
The winner will get a new special advertisement, including an interview for us, and of course eternal glory and respect from everyone. There won't be any prize money, because we are poor :D, and movie making must remain a passion and a pleasure, and not a way to get money (even if it is not well-paid considering the time spent to edit a movie).

f. Submission
-how to enter the contest-

The details of submission will be given later, by a new post or an update on this one. There is going to be a window period where contestants will be able to submit their videos into the contest. This is to prevent editors from getting impatient with the admins about keeping the video a secret ;) and to ensure that you all produce some spectacular stuff :).

The window period will be from March 1st to March 15th of 2008.

If you finish your video before the window period. We urge you to make adjustments, tweaks, get rid of any errors or artifacts, and/or other things that could use improvement. This will give you a better chance at winning the prize. GL & HF! :)

MOST IMPORTANTLY: This contest is NOT restricted to ONE GAME. It is open game for ALL GAMES! I urge every editor who wants in on this contest to enter!

NOTE: *If you don't know what codec you used, you probably used a standard microsoft one. Label it as "DEFAULT".
