interesting to read! I also used a few sync's in my last movie (chicane at demolition) but that was more a start/ending story: making sure the start of a new scene wouldn't be in the middle of a sentence of a song, and sometimes making frags and situations matching with the music. In my next movie i want to make this perfect, and therefore reading this thread has given me a few more idea's about syncing. Only disadvantage is that SoF2 is compared to Quake 3 a rather slow game, and an individual frag hardly ever shows skills, and a sequence of frags syncing with the music is much harder, however i'll try :) d/l 3 of the movies mentioned in your thread now (already seen Annihilation, which was a very good example of syncing indeed)

overview of my movies, useful links, best quality settings for SoF2, handling (sof2) sounds before and in premiere
all on one site: www.sof2chicane.tk (the site is ugly but the info is gold)

Hi.
Just got here and saw this theard.
Just a few lines to Adamllis coz u think the same way as u do on the syncing stuff. Not on the way u divided the syncing in groups (never saw it that way) but i do agree that a good syncing besides beeing easy to do, gives life into a movie. It is fun to do and most of all it is fun to watch.
Keep on the good work m8 ;)

awesome post...
you described it really well! I think exactly this is the answer to the question I'm asking myself sometimes: Why do I like this movie more than the other one? Why didnt interest me this one, even if the editing and frags are so fresh and clean?!
This plus the choice of music is what makes a movie great. I think northern darkness is a very good example for this, too. Everything in moody syncing, not all to great shots, but the right music with the correct scenes - awesome.

WHAT? this kind of seems like a waist of time to me, I already knew all of this, I don’t need to be told in your words cause I have got my own, this is good for people how are just starting out with making videos and what not but when I read this I couldn’t help but be a little angered at the fact that you probably were pondering this "theory" for a while. i think its just sad, sorry.

That thread was not here to please you in particular, but to have all that stuffs most of the editors (I mean the real ones, not the one who just do drag and drop and finish their movie in 3 minutes) know written somewhere. If you knew all that at least it means he didn't do any mistake. Remember it is a video editing forum, it is here for skilled editors to talk about complicated editing stuffs, and to help editing newbies too, so all the posts can't be interesting for both. Note: and change that stupid sig, having just the word 'PENIS!' is so lame...

Geez, you must get awfully dizzy what with the whole universe revolving around you!
Yes, heaven forbid anyone besides you could possible benefit and learn from anything on a community forum like this. Not everyone is born with the instinctive knowledge for creation and entertainment like you. Some may have never thought about or applied these ideas to their work in a cohesive and affective manner. Their work i might add, not for profit but merely for our entertainment and the satisfaction in themselves for a job well done. Helping them helps all of us on this site, why even be here if you're not gonna be helpful or learn something yourself? To be entertained by other peoples hard work? Then be thankful they read this and all the info given freely on this site. Take a chill pill or something, i hear Dramamine is good.

Well, I never said he did a bad job explaining it or made any mistakes, I thought forums are places of opinions, he had his, I had mine, get it? I'm sorry if you think I was trying to demean his thread in anyway, maybe I could have been a bit less of an asshole, but it can’t be helped now can it.

I see your point, I haven’t been on these forums long, ill be less of an ass in later post, sorry if I had an opinion that differs from everyone else’s. hell, I may as well jump on the band wagon and lap everything up like everybody else....or not, just because I didn’t agree with everything he said doesn’t mean that I’m a bad sort of person, nor does it mean I think the universe revolves around me, nor does it also mean I think my video editing skills are far more advanced than anyone else’s, sorry if you think that about me but maybe you should be less judgmental in the future, however, I do relies that I came on too strong with my above comment and for that I’m sorry.

I think this thread is useful because now we can actually apply terms to a specific type of synching instead of going into a whole bunch of detail.

Well Linwood. You can call me judgmental if you like, hell you can call me 'mental' i don't care but i got your attention. I'm all for opinions whether they differ from mine or not and we are all free to speak in a nice and constructive manner but when i read your post you honestly seemed to take offense at someone giving their time and thought to help us all and potentially help YOU. This is a public forum and unless you read your name in the subject line then it is not directed solely at you. Maybe i did pass judgment too soon but you presented a pretty convincing case for my reply.
I mean, i get angered at politicians taking away my rights, at my ex g/fs, at murderers and child molesters, at people who leave shopping carts in the last handicap spot so that my mother cannot park there because she can't get out of her car to move the damn cart.
Inconsiderateness is my pet peeve and that is what i felt from you. I don't get 'a little angered' at someone taking the time and thought and consideration to help people and this/any community as a whole whither i fully agree with the information or not... i just hopped to help you see how inconsiderate you came across in your post and hope you will be more constructive in your criticisms.
I really hope you spend time here, learn if you like, help if you can and most of all enjoy your time here like i do. I'm glad you will be more considerate in the future. Thats all i wanted, thank you for listening. Have a good day Linwood. :)

im just starting to prepare my 4th movie. my old ones have been a misery, i did them all on my own, without having read anything about quality, ingame tipps or music.
i put my favorite music in and tried to make it look nice. after having read this thread now, i see that i used some syncing. http://www.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=5651
well, i tried to. it was my first movie. and what i wanted to tell with this is:
im preparing my new movie now and this thread was great and really helpful for me, now i know what im gonna put in. at least a bit of. what im curious about, is how to do that great ( i think mini- ) syncing in Tricking iT 2, at 13min 23sec. this effect is really great. it does not need a synced action in the footage but it looks amazing and i would like to use it. how do i do this? thought about cutting them all and bla bla. i have no clue. :)

Synching has to be on the spot :)
When I see people dancing to a song and they jump up and down slightly off beat I always think they can't keep rhythm :/

Right, but the problem with movies is that many of them have an airshot on each hard beat, so you often exactely know what is going to happen as soon as you have seen the first picture of the frag... Imo some more subtle sync can be more entertaining, but often in that case many people won't even notice it. To sum up, sync has to be really obvious else many people won't notice it, and I think it is bad when it is too obvious...
