This is a step by step guide to converting a video to the stream. You will need the Windows media encoder series 9 which is available for free at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx
Step 1.
Download the encoder at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx
Step 2.
Open the application and click on "New Session"
view image
Step 3.
Under the Wizards tab select "convert a file" hit the ok button.
view image
Step 4
On the next window You'll be asked to select your source file you would like to convert, as well as your output file. Once Done with that select next in the wizard.
Step 5
The next Window will be the Content Distribution Window, Select:
"Windows Media Server (streaming)" then hit next
view image
Step 6
hit next then finish. (it is not necessary to continue on in the wizard because all the settings the wizard will make are going to be changed in the next few steps)
Step 7
Click on Properties Found right below the file/view/control menu. This should bring up your Session Properties.
view image
Step 8
Click on the compression tab and under the destination field click the "Edit..." button
view image
Step 9.
Select Import and Import the "ownageTVQuality.prx" file. (download the file here)
(please note, this also includes the HDTV version if you want to create that version as well) view image
Optional step (step 9a).
If you are using a custom aspect ratio that is not 4:3 (ie, not using 640x480 or 800x600) You may want to adjust the video size to a correct aspect ratio. To do this select the other tab to the right of the general tab inside the Custom Encoding Settings window and enter in a aspect ratio that fits your video. (PLEASE KEEP THE WIDTH LOWER THEN 400 AND THE HEIGHT LOWER THEN 300. This is the maximum width available for this stream. Anything higher then that will result in the video being rejected for the stream.
view image
Another note on this window. Do not alter the bitrate and audio format. Increasing the bitrate will result in the your video being rejected from the stream.
Select Ok to continue.
Step 10.
Now Goto the Attributes Tab and edit any of the fields you want. Such as the Title, author, copyright and so on. (In the description you can put "Hosted by own-age.com" to be nice)
view image
Step 11
Click the apply button near the bottom of the application and you're ready to encode. To encode simply click "start encoding" which is found next to the properties button as explained in step 4.
view image
Once done encoding You can review and upload the file to:
ftp.own-age.com/BroadcastMedia
User: videos
Pass: videos
after you are done uploading the file please private message me at:
http://www.own-age.com/users/pm/send.aspx?name=own-age
PS: You don't have to just do this for your video.. If there is a video on the site you would like to see on the stream, you can encode it and upload it yourself.

Yes, you can convert and send up any video.. There is only 1 exception: it must have a profile on this site.

does the movie still need to be -lets say- above the average, or will any video that meets the quality-requirements for the stream be placed on it?

overview of my movies, useful links, best quality settings for SoF2, handling (sof2) sounds before and in premiere
all on one site: www.sof2chicane.tk (the site is ugly but the info is gold)

Right now I'm accepting any/all videos. Eventually I would like to have seperate streams for specific games/types and so on.. But before I can do that I need to have the media in the needed format.

I do exactly as follows but whenever I do step 6, it's starts processing and I get as much as 1024 errors! Are there any familiar problems with some configurations with this program? Should I change some settings in the encoding options I get after step 5? Please some help.

I have never had a problem with the encoder being slow.. I thought it actually encoded pretty quick.. it all depends on what kbps and other various settings though.

I was not talking about the encoding stuff, I meant navigating through the interface. When I select a source, it takes like 10s before I can change an other setting, etc...

Alcohol is the answer, but I can't remember the question!

wee yes it takes like 10 seconds after clicking on finish then the program quits. I restart prog click new file thing and select my source file and i click on next and the program quits again. If I select another file I get exe-error and sometimes my whole pc crashed. |

oh yea.. it does take a little time to do sometimes.. depends on your source too.. has to read a bit of info about the file to update the settings (video size, and so on)
