Anyway, I've been having problems right off the bat. When I tried to actually follow the guide and do the command line it said something about FAAC not being a valid program or batch. So I decided to cop out and do the makemp4.bat. But I get "The system cannot find the path specified" for the audio and all the passes.
Here is what I have done. Re-installed all the decoders and encoders, and used the same versions as http://wiki.meaz.org/index.php?title=X264_Encoding. I made a new folder on my drive "C:\slam" and put my uncompressed audio and video (both same filename "slam") there. Then, per directions, extracted the x264, faac, and mp4box .exe's there. I have double and triple checked that I edited my makemp4.bat file correctly. My resolution is 768x576 at 30 frames per second. Here is a screenshot. http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/3525/wtf3zv.jpg |
in your windows explorer go to tools > folder options > view tab > "hide extensions for known file types" > uncheck.
your audio file does not look like an .m4a, it looks like a .wav.

| Frag, it already is a .wav. Is it supposed to be a .m4a? Anyway, I'm trying fei's tutorial, I'll edit later with results.. Thanks for the help so far though :) |

no that's the point, it needs to be an .m4a, not a .wav. that's what the faac.exe is for.
i've found it easiest to just follow the guide on the first page. use faac in a command window and convert the audio.
then use megui to compress the video. then mp4box to mux them.
as for megui, i've just picked up different things here and there to try. you just have to play with it.

| Installed .net framework 2.0, then I was able to use FAAC (I'm guessing that was the problem =x) Then I just followed the rest of the guide! |

Hope no one minds a new addition to an older thread here.
I've thoroughly read the guide and followed it to the T as I've compressed my current project. But I'm having numerous problems with mp4box that I just can't figure out. I started off using it in the command window and used the exact command line that Tox|c uses in the guide. The first error message I got was "Option -new unknown. Please check usage." I figured that mp4box has been updated and that switch is no longer correct, so I just tried leaving it out. Then I got "Option -fps unknown. Please check usage." So I took out that switch which left me with:
mp4box -add section9avis.264#video -add section9-2aud.m4a#audio section9-2.mp4
"Error importing section9avis.264#video: MP4 File is truncated."
?? By now I'm totally confused so I broke down and installed YAMB. Here's the log:
[21:55:21] : YAMB 1.5.0 started ! [21:55:21] : OS type detection... [21:55:21] : Windows XP Home Edition (version 5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2) [21:55:21] : Checking MP4Box location...MP4Box found. [21:55:21] : Checking MediaInfo.dll...library found. [21:55:45] : Muxing started... [21:55:45] : Muxing finished completely.
No output file. No error message =(. Any ideas? |

Well you answered your own question. 856 is not divisible by 16. Needs to be 848x480 or 864x480.

I put up a VTM at csflicks.net just going over Toxik's guide. Not exactly explaining the guide just pointing out where the good bits are and different things to try, and different ways of getting your resolution right.

Well I finally got around to updating the guide. The main GUI used in
the guide (meGUI) has changed and been improved significantly since the
original version of this guide, so I figured I'd bring everything up to
date.
*Update* v2.0 2007-03-25
-Completely revamped the guide so everything is up to date.
-Everything done through a single GUI.
-Changed encoding path from 3pass automated to 2pass automated turbo (reason in the guide).
-Added a few notes about bitrate.
-Removed a bunch of outdated info.
Hope it helps for anyone who may need it :)

You could change one more thing in your guide. I find it's best (and easiest) to use the AutoEncode button in MeGUI. If you manually go to the MP4 muxer, you can't enter a custom FPS. |
