SDTV/S-Video. Help please.reply | view profile | pm | quote

I am enquiring into something which I have been interested in a long time now, basically I am interested in recording
an old game which I love, it's an old game which does not have it's own form of demo recording or such.

Basically, I am looking to play this game on my PC, while playing it I would like to use my laptop to record it using
some form of hardware which will connect the two machines together to allow me to do so, however, I am not entirely
sure of what to do.

I have heard that there are numerous ways to do this, one would be to use an external ATi TV Wonder USB portable TV device, which would use the SVideo output on my graphics card (assuming I have one on my HIS ATI Radeon X1950 Pro graphics card, perhaps one of you can clear this up for me also?) connect it to the ATi device, then connect it to the USB on my laptop, start up
a third party program such as Ulead, detect the input program and record.

Another method involves SDTV on a Television card however I do not have a clue what to do regarding this.

It'd be nice to record my gameplay without suffering FPS loss :)

Thanks very much for your time.

your card should indeed have come with an s-video-out breakout cable

as for the laptop input, the two options you suggest are one in the same!  the all-in-wonder is nothing more than a capture card :)  however, you may be overcomplicating things

if this game is that old, you will probably have more than enough horsepower left to run FRAPS along-side the game, in which case all your recording will be done on one PC, without any funky cables or capture programs
