In Search of Extreme Video Compression Achieved

We are into formulating codec for videos. we need details regarding the research findings & results achieved in the field of video compression.. We are in a hunt to find the utmost extreme compression done to any kind of video file which may not be in any standard formats like mp4, flv or swf. Kindly guide us. Thanks & Regards

experts are @ www.doom9.org I would suggest x264 to start with.
