For those that are wondering, quad core is worth it, if you encode x264. 100% CPU usage.

x264 HQ-Insane settings (everything except exhaustive on)
6 - 8 FPS

I think I got like .4 FPS on old PC, but then again x264 is in constant development.

New hardware:
CPU: Intel core 2 quad Q9450 2.66GHz
RAM: OCZ 2x1GB DDR2
Vid: Asus Radeon HD 4870 512MB
Mobo: Asus P5Q LGA 775 P45

Well i think an important thing is if your OS is 32 or 64 bit.

I have a e6700 and a q6700 -> both needed the exact same time to encode my video.
I gotta test it again with a 64bit OS next week ;)

4gb ram only effect clearly if he uses a 64bit os.

 4GB is useless if you're on Windows 32-bit. You'll only have 3.5 Gigs or something like that due to stupid memory restrictions.
