Here's a short version for you lazy people!  I'm simply declaring that by doing these simple things we can begin to revive this site!

1. Make a commitment to make at least ONE post and ONE video comment PER WEEK.  If you're browsing this site and reading this don't say you don't have time to do that!
2. Refer your friends and anyone with any interest in gaming media here!
3. Working on something?  Post some pics!  Share your production process with us for some advice and to get people excited about your project!
4. Got some knowledge?  Share it!  You don't have to write full-fledged tutorials to help new people out.  Sometimes little tidbits of info are all people need.

By doing these simple things I think the site's activity will start to rise again.  Check my original post below:

Hello everybody,

Most of you don't know me but I've been a q3 player and user of this website for about 8 years (maybe more, I've lost count).  Like a lot of people who use this site however, I've never been extremely active on the forums or in commenting on videos.  Actively checking forums is just not something I'm usually in the habit of doing.

With a large portion of the q3 community moving on to other games or now onto Quake Live it's no surprise that this community has suffered as a result.  Quake and CS still seem to be the dominant gaming movies still being posted today with the odd video from other titles.  With that said I'm sure most people are aware that although this site has thrived off of q3 videos it is not a q3 only site and welcomes all gaming media.  I hope we can continue to see many great videos posted whether it be a FPS, racing game, MMO, etc.  I personally have a few q3 videos planned that I hope to share with you soon.  Unfortunately I can't give an estimated time of release at this time :(

I'm proposing to [hopefully] help revitalize this online community by asking everyone who uses this site (and I know there's still a lot of people still checking here every day) to become more active.  If everyone who still checks the site can commit to commenting on 1 video and making 1 forum post a week I think it would be a great step towards reviving this site.  Additionally, I know you guys have friends who may not even know about this site.  Talk to your friends about this site.  Get them to register and join the community!  Who knows, maybe they'll even get into video game movie making :)

I don't know if it will make a difference.  I don't even know if there's enough people left to read this message and care enough to actually listen.  But I can hope.  Starting today I'll be taking part in my own commitment, with this fresh account,  to be not just a browser but an active user of this website.  I think after all of these years we owe at least that much to Sean and all of the wonderful admins, past and present, who have contributed to this amazing website.

If you made it this far -  thanks for reading,
Long live own-age.com

Great to see a new active supporter of the site.
It is a vicious cercle: as the site is notactive, people don't come often and don't post, then the site is less active, etc.
I understand why Sean wanted to give up, but the reaction of the community has shown us it would have been a big waste.
Anyway if you can make something to help promote the site and help it to be active anymore, you are more than welcome.
I will talk about the porpositions you made me with other admins and try to answer quickly, but it is not easy as all of us have now active lives (job, lovers, and even children for me).
Bw it was refreshing tonight to see someone's posts instead of spams in the last commented videos :D

Alcohol is the answer, but I can't remember the question!

You could be a very welcome boost here!
As Bacchus says, I'm daily deleting spam posts for almost an hour, I do try to keep up with new movies, but commenting on them at the moment becomes less frequent.

It's true, there aren't many comments on movies, but judging from the movies still being added and the amount of downloads the site is still very active.

Any guests are ofcourse welcome to comment on any movie they downloaded!

Movies are still being posted at a slower, yet still consistent rate.  So why are none of the video authors on the forums posting screenshots etc. during their production phase to entice us and get us interested in their work so everyone wants to download it as soon as it's out?  People seem to spend countless hours editing their movies and can't spend 5 minutes to promote it.  Boggles my mind!

This is true with low activity there's not much incentive to post or be active but judging from the downloads the site still appears to be getting 500+ hits (probably more) a month.  If even half of those people made 1 post a month the site would start to become more active again.

P.S. The quote system on these forums is silly! :(

I've been browsing this site for quite a while, but never commented a whole lot. I'll definitely try to be a little more active.

Good intention! I came here every day, now every week. Always planning to make a movie myself, but i got the odd idea that i must be an awesome player to make a movie :S. Nowadays i play Q3 not so very often anymore, i play a lot of Modern Warfare 2.
I think also that (for me personally) it's a big step to make a movie all by yourself and that is worth viewing when you are just start making movies. So maybe it's an idea to make somekind of group that works on 1 particular movie? I know they allready excist, but i mean for the newbies among us.

You don't need to be a very good q3 player to make q3 movies. In fact the nice frags you see in movies are just lucky ones (of course good players will have a better aim so it can help), and there are even some frags where you clearly see that the player was trying to get a good shot (I remember a frag from >V1ncent Vega, where he was aiming at an opponent that was far away with his railgun, his cursor was on him, then he switches weapon and do a long airshot), often when the opponent has really lower skills.
And anyway if you feel your frags won't make it, you can ask for some demos here (there is even a section made for that).
Anywya it is good to see the forum (a little) active again.

I'm not ready to share any details of my projects quite yet but if anyone is it would be awesome to see some activity in some forums other than Off Topic :)

Hello!

For a few years i made the choise to watch gaming videos, becasuse it amuses me to see what everyone from the communitty does
(including coders, designers, testers, editors, etcs) to give everyone else an enjoyable work!
I cannot express all the joy you all gave me! :D

Since i have unfinished business to complete, i've decided to become "inactive" in gaming and forum to focus on one job: movie making! :)

I'm sure there are more like me who see much and comment less! But i can't remove own-age.com from my life ;)
But i'm also sure there are many people still starting to see gaming movies and will comment more!

Btw photos and movie projects are nice, so post them :D

Note: i've lost my pm's since the site changed server.

*** edit ***
eh.. it's still on beta, but i will still share: Premonition Site, comment in the guest book if you like :)

Proclamation (lame thread)

I have noticed the site becomes active again.
Nothing really big, and we are still far from the good old times, but it makes me happy.

:) finally i am busy to make recordings of some of my matches in MW2, and then later take out the best parts. I do this with Xfire, maybe i should try it to with Quake 3. Cause most of the hosted games i play in don't allow recording :(. Maybe something for me to look into this weekend :). I'll keep you guys updated!
