So there's been millions of these threads ... I've noticed them more at the OPC forums which are now dead but I'm sure there has been many here as well. But now it's a month into 2010 and many players have sadly moved on from q3 onto other things for better or worse.
This is a new thread to tell people what you're up to now! What games do you still play? Post a pic of yourself! etc. Share anything you want, as much or as little as you want!
I'll start ...
My name is Ryan. I've lived in Ontario, Canada all of my life but as of Jan 6, 2010 I've moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba (next province to the west) to continue to work on independent films with a friend who is going to school out here. I'm currently jobless and sitting on the floor typing this because I don't have money for a desk.
I've been playing q3 since 2001. I was 13 when I started playing; I'm now 21. I've been slightly less active for the past 3 years because after my old computer died I made the transition to mac and now use a Mac Pro. Quake does run fine but it has it's issues in OS X so I plan to get windows 7 to dual boot solely for Q3.
I was introduced to tricking on ctf4 and consequently the first tricking video I downloaded and watched was AscendWand's ctf4.com video (downloaded from his website when it was still up!). First video I downloaded from own-age.com was Tribulation. My favourite tricker is, was, always will be Michael Flatley :)
That's enough for now :) Maybe later I'll post some sad pics of my floor setup! haha

Ok, it is time to introduce myself.
My name is Julien, I live in France near Paris, and I am 28 years old.
I am an IT engineer, currently my job is between IT project manager and coder.
I am married and have a lovely 6 months old girl.
I have been admin on own-age.com for quite some time now, and a member the day after it was possible to register.
About Q3, I started playing it seriously in 2001 or 2002, don't remember, when I was still a student.
A friend of mine quickly introduced me to CPMA, and I nearly never played VQ3 again since then.
I mainly used to play clan arena, because it is fun and I like travelling through maps at high speed.
I don't play online anymore because I have a bad ping, and anyway I don't have the time anymore.
I play some defrag too, and in fact that's the main way I play Q3 now. I especially like strafe maps (like in W3sp strafes or feel).
I have appeared in several movies, and edited a few myself, but I am not a pro editor, nor a pro player.
Alcohol is the answer, but I can't remember the question!

Good topic this ;)
My name is Johan, i live in Arnhem the city of operation Market Garden. I am 32 yrs old. I am divorced and have a son who is now 14 months old. Bit odd to tell maybe but the last 2 years i had some intensive psychotherapy. Turns out i am a Borderliner :|, now i know why i am always bitching at other players :P.
So i have no paying job now, but i help as a volunteer at a watermill which was founded in the year 1470. I actually do some milling there myself :)
I started playing Quake mostly at LAN-parties with friends. But i got my ass kicked every time so i never really got to playing it much. After i saw Annihilation (i didnt know about this site then) which a friend of mine showed me, i began playing it much more. I wanted to be some kind of a hero in such a movie :). Pretty quick i learned that CPMA CA was the game for me. When i played my first match i was stunned by the way the players moved at such high speeds. I wanted to be that fast. Well i never got to being that fast because i didnt practice enough, but it still is a thrill when i play.
It has been a long time now since i played. I mostly play Modern Warfare 2 now...allthough the matchmaking sux, thank you IW :(.
As to moviemaking...i have a program called Pinnacle. I edited some raw footage of live video, and did some recordings of little tricks in defrag and CTF against bots.

I think this will be my first forum posting here? :D
My real name is Christian. My real nickname is 'Taki', which I therefore also used in ut99, when I started playing it right after its release. At some point later I added another nickname: 'Hardcore', because I love Hardcore music ( http://www.hardcoreradio.nl/ ). From then on I used both nicknames from time to time. I started ut99 with the CTF gamemode and after about one year I switched to Assault and joined the league www.utassault.net (hint hint) :D . I played the game until I finished school in 2003, became relatively inactive then, totally inactive until late 2009 and played a few games since then until today. And I have to say the game still rocks. Never needed anything else :)
Alright. Back to topic :D
I am from southern Germany and studied Computer System Engineering until last November. Now I am still waiting for my final marks/grades and need to decide whether to go on working at Uni (PhD) or to get a normal job.
Well yeah. That's about it :)

One of the first movies I saw was Tribulation as well. Found the link on Quake3World.com (I think) and browsed this site for hours that day, never left since.
As far as style goes, I really like b3nt, very recognizable, not only because of his efficient mouse movement but also his turn after each run (another recognizable one is Bastard, with his maniacal mouse movement all over the place after each run). Pity he stopped years and years ago.
Historically this site is ofcourse closely related to Q3, but the other movies are a true enrichment to this site.
Hm some personal stuff. My name is Marc, I'm 39 and live in the Netherlands, Wageningen, the city where the capitulation of Germany was signed.
I may be paranoid about pics of me on internet (you will only be able to find 1). I've been playing EF (a Q3 engined game) for a long time and started playing Q3 some time later because of the movies here. QL is fun. Always CTF.
I made a few movies, but only 1 I'm proud of (and to today's standards it's not very remarkable). In some thread I hinted at becoming an admin (partly as a joke) and next thing I know, Sean asked me if I would be interested. Funny how 1 post can make a difference between a devoted user and an admin.
As a player I'm average, it's been years since I've made a movie but the passion is still there :P |

My name is Denis. All my life I lived in Panevezys (north of Lithuania) but 3 years ago moved to capital Vilnius where I am studying at "Vilniaus Gedimino Technikos Universitetas" university. Will be computer engineer one day :)
I am 22 years old now.
Currently working as a technical support representative for "4Team Corp." corporation (www.4Team.biz).
I am engaged and plan to marry my fiancee sometime next year.
Started to play Quake 3 in about 2001 when my friend showed it to me, since I got internet connection I started to play seriously (not a world wide superstar, tho :)) and got involved in esports. I am an administrator at www.esports.lt and also have my own website created for our team here in Lithuania www.nga-gaming.com (currently not much time for all of this :( )
Currently I am playing Quake Live when I get a chance, because
community is much bigger there and the game itself is like Quake 3.
Never played or liked CMPA, played a bit Defrag, but only for a short
period of time. Always liked VQ3 :)
The first movie I saw was "Quake 3 Rulezz II" which is still one of my favorites. It inspired me to create movies myself and, well would like to think so, got pretty goot at it. I still love editing and will be working on a new project real soon because I simply adore video editing. Discovered own-age.com sometime in 2004 maybe. At a time it was an icon for moviemaking (still is for me).

My name is Nicolas (or Nick) and I'm from Paris, France. I'm a 25 years old infographist/graphical designer and I've been playing Quake for err... a long time. It started out in 1997/98 with Quake2, which I've played for many years. Played quite a lot of Quake 3 aswell, mainly as a CTF'er (OSP vq3) and a CA'er (CPMA) before I recently moved on to Quakelive, like most of the old Quake 3 players. It's fun but doesn't really feel the same as the original, and never will.
I was introduced to own-age.com and the moviemaking scene some time around 2004/05, as I was looking something up on Google. I actually already knew the site, as a friend told me about it and showed me own-age's Annihilation a few years before that, back in 2003. It inspired me to learn video-editing myself. This whole place truely played a big role in all this and infact, most of the things I know I learned from here. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance yet to release a full-length video as I'm still working on my own big movie project called "Confession at the Great North Church" when I get some spare time (which I terribly lack nowadays). Also the fact that I can be a pretty disorganized person doesn't help... but I'll make it, eventually.
I guess that's all for now, might add a few other things later if that's worth mentioning.

Hello,
I'm Tânia, better known as [PT] TANIA as this is my war name for Q3 and Foruns :)
I'm from Lisbon - Portugal, and I've played Q3 from about 2002 to 2007.
I'm currently a consultant for an IT company and I'm working very hours per day, and i've also moved to an appartment of my own.
I've made a few tutorials, played over duzens of q3 mods, beta tested hundreds of movies and watched thousands (if not millions!!) of gaming movies!
own-age.com will always be my home (till i get banned for posting smack-talk), and i like to contribute for the community with my oppinions. I've also been very active in overdrivepc, breakdown-hq and fraglider.
Premonition is a project that i'm still dedicated to, unfortunatly is taking more thme than I was counting but all the work put so far can't be wasted.
Thank you for this thread Phoenix. I hope you get a nice desk and a fine computer to do your movies! :)

I'm Sean "own-age" Kuehnel (now known as "Seanage" in Qlive) . I'm a Lead Programmer in a manufacturing company responsible for all sorts of complicated shit. I started this site in 2002 to promote my videos... Soon after the site started people asked if they could put their videos on my site and then the site started to morph into what it is today. At it's prime back in 2003 this site was pretty active at over a half million people visiting each month. I started video editing skateboarding videos and was "semi-sponsored" by a local skate shop and sold my videos in 2 cities (sold out the first week). I decided to make gaming videos because I found myself going for the "sweet shots" where as most people go for the "deadlyness" factor. I self taught into Video editing as well as programming. While I haven't been that active now, i still sometimes log into quake live to get my mid rocket fix (mostly in ctf4).
I stated playing quake3 back in 98 when the demo was available. Before that I played Rainbow six (the original) online. I honestly can't remember the first gaming video I saw, however I thought I made the first one not being associated with a community since back then there was no gaming movie community.
I'd love to make another video, however since the release of AnnihilatioN I've gotten rather annoyed trying to find the proper music.. as most of you know I'm one detailed microsync'r and also I am extremely picky with my music selection :/. I've redone the intro to Aftermath at least 5 times back then and was just never satisfied with the music. maybe someday...
If you play QLive be sure to friend me.. I'm a monster tricker/mid rocket whore in qzctf4. Rail whores need not apply. see you in game. Wish qlive had cam abilities.. that would definitely be awesome.
