This little bit is a whole lot easier then I thought. And the time it can save editors is a big plus which is the reason why I started this thread. The benefit of this is you can re-record your demos so yourself, or another editor doesn't have to wade through the crap to get to your desired stuff.
The Steps- Download SDC via:
Official site: http://skuller-vidnoe.narod.ru or own-age.com DL Link
- To install SDC, Drop it in your q3 arena folder (default location for this folder is in c:/program files/ )
- run the q3sdc executable, that is found in your q3 arena folder
Important note: make sure u have sdr_fps set to 125 if u want clean demos (default is 15) To set in the console type /sdr_fps 125. This will produce a smoother demo. (note it can only match the original, if your original is sketchy, most likely, so will your re-recorded shot)
- To load the demo using sdc, use /sdplay [demonamehere]
- To record your specific shot or scene, type the g_sync 1, then /record [name] like you would to record a regular demo
- type stoprecord and your done, your new shorter demo is created.
On a side note, I've tested this out on baseq3 demos only, Still trying to figure out other mods, mrks, or anyone else who may be more experienced in this lemme know if there are other steps needed to do the same thing in other mods.
A little tip: Bind some keys to g_sync... 1, record and stoprecord so you do this process more on the fly

yeah wading through the demo is the worst part of making a movie, from now on i will try to submit shots instead of demos using the SDC

Is it possible to create a dedicated server with sdc and running demos?

probably, I've never done it before, but that was the main purpose behind sdc

If iI play a game and have simple items on and things set for max framerate and record a demo, can I turn that back on for recoeding a shorter demo for moviemakeing? I tried doing it the normal way of changing settings in the game when playing a demo with SDC, but it doesn't seem to work, or do I have to play my games at full rez and all the bells and whistles turned on?

Does anyone know why when i use sdc to play a demo, in 1st person point of view after a gib frag i get a 5 digit pink number (like 56748) that floats from the gibs. Kinda strange but I have to use the regular demo mode for 1st person and sdc for recams. Major pain! Anybody??? Help. O and love the program.

What an awesome program. :D
I'm getting those pink/purple numbers floating over kills though, any way to get rid of that? :\

I have a problem capturing from sdc. When I try to capture directly from sdc it seems it can't produce more than 20-25 screenshots per second of game, even if I use timescale. I don't have this problem when I re-record with sdc and play the demo back normally, and I have /sdr_fps 125. Anyone know how to solve it, because I don't really want to re-record all my demos with the correct cam and capture them using normal game after, it takes too much extra time.

Alcohol is the answer, but I can't remember the question!

To be more specific: whatever I do I can't get more than 20-25 fps (don't know exactely) while capturing with sdc (even if I try to trick with timescale or anything like that, if Ido /cl_avidemo 90 with timescale 0.5 I still get 20-25 fps for 1s of action), and it doesn't come from the demo, because everything works properly when I re-record the demo with sdc and capture without using sdc.

I used to do like: reduce the timescale in a way that i capture less frames but when i imported in the Virtual dub it will put it on 30fps..
timescale 0.5 -> maxfps 15 -> cl_avidemo 15 timescale 0.2 -> maxfps 6 -> cl_avidemo 6
this are two examples :) but as bun (i think) told in slow motion we get jerky movements i did only changed the avidemo :D but if you put the maxfps it would cut that jerky movement :) try it!

Thanks for your help but even if I play with timescale it doesn't work. Even if I do timescale 0.2, it won't take more than 4-5 screnshots per second, and in the end I will still get the same framerate. Anyway my maxfps is at 125, but when I play demos with sdc or I try to capture it is like it is at 20-25, but if I re-record with sdc it is back to 125. It looks like a sdc bug, but maybe it is not or there is a way to solve it. Thanks for trying to help me Tania.

No, you've gotta put the 3 instructions together:
For having 30fps do: timescale 0.2 -> maxfps 6 -> cl_avidemo 6 For having slow motion 1/2 do: timescale 0.2 -> maxfps 12 -> cl_avidemo 12 or timescale 0.1 -> maxfps 6 -> cl_avidemo 6
I love maths ;p
Now check this 2 things too:
the server fps and the client fps :)
Also.. are you in cpma? Can it be something of that mod?

My maxfps is already at 125, and all my fps parameters are at 125 too (I repeat that I have no problem re-recording demos with sdc and capturing them back without it). I have checked with a vq3 demo played back in vq3 with sdc and it is worse (like 10-15 fps). I love maths too, but only harder maths than that :p. Anyway thanks for trying to help me. Any other idea anyone?
