Dear god yes. And that is an excellent idea to combat the wave of crap coming in. I highly approve.

I agree with MrPenguin, def a good idea. Maybe you could also have the site delete the video profile if it gets 10 or more "bad" votes. Maybe also include an "average" rating option because not all vids are simply good or bad, many fall in between the two.

though I would vote, i fear that any instance of this being integrated into the site would simply be abused. Sure there are some below-average videos here - technically there have to be. And this feature will, i predict, just become an alternate to the number-voting system.
though I think own-age.com should implement this, I am hesitant because I want this feature to be used for the purpose of sorting out vids not suited to be on this site at all - videos with no profiles/screenies sure, but also as a tool of reporting distasteful content such as pornography or acts of terror.
despite the poorer videos that are getting profiles, I realize that they take up all of 5kb of space TOPS. I see this site not as a gallery of top videos, but also as a community where new and aspiring editors can debut their material and get truthful and MEANINGFUL feedback, even if the quality of their work is poor.
So, I suppose to sum it up, this function should be used sparingly, and an admin should review any video with many "bad" votes, eliminating any thought of an auto-remove feature.

Can I hear a hell yeah.... But not to the point of .:EXEcution:. whereby when it hits a certain amount of bad votes that it gets kicked, but maybe taken into consideration by the site admins for removal. Because, at the end of the day, you could be missing out on something special like the Piure movie which I'm still waiting for a decent mirror to be posted to take a look because it flies at about 100bytes/sec. No jokes, but it could still be something cool. Just a thought! :)

It's a good idea, but i think it has to be in combination with something like a report/comment maybe even integrated in the existing commenting system. Note that this system of rating the vid good or bad should not be taken too seriously as the actual comments, sincs it's very faggot-sensitive, who could abuse the system and rate it bad while the vid is actually pretty good. or pranksters who rate it bad just for fun to tick off a mate or whatever reason.
Maybe it could even complement to something like a skill ranking system, so that the "pro's" among us could like be more mildly with their comments, and taking the noob status in consideration. Tho i havent seen much hating in here yet in the year i've been here that is.
Anyways, the idea is nice, but in combination or integration with other things, if you dont do that, just stick to the Review system that already exists ;)

As I'm missing the monthly news about the "best" movies of the month, I voted "yes", hoping to get a chance downloading the movies they are worth a download. Doug had some good points in his comment and I also think this feature must be tested first to see what happens.
But as I'm looking for really good game-movies and I do not have too much time to do that, a feature like this would be great to prevent myself from downloading movies I have to deleate soon. I'm such an egoist! ;)
btw: Is this "monthly movie review news feature" dead??

I think that kind of feature would be great. As many have spotted, it mustn't be used alone. We were more thinking of letting this feature enabled for regular user only, or a bunch of people we trust enough so we know they won't abuse the system. Anyway auto-deleting will probably not happen, and a movie would have to be reviewed by an admin before deletion. Imo that kind of feature is a first good step into maintaining the quality of the site into something equivalent as how it was when we had to review all the movies.

Alcohol is the answer, but I can't remember the question!

As I said, this is extremely true. How many people do you know that will just take the piss and give tons of guest votes to have it kicked just because they think it's funny or they just don't like the video's creator.

To prevent this from being abused, it's best to let this functionability be only available to long time users here.

Exactely, I think atm the only difference is the name of the status. And when you see a comment from a new user or from a regular user, you can often trust one of them more than the other.

Old timers can still spout rubbish if they want. They're merely less likely to. It's that feeling of respect. I'd rather trust the opinion of someone who's had a lot of activity and is still active over someone, even if they've been round for years but are still "New Users". Experience counts for some things in this world.

Right, since i am a debuting editor i think that the vids should be votable but only by users. Vote yes or no to having the vid on the site as this will stop most not all of the trouble that could be caused by people disliking an editor. This will clear out the galleries of bad movies and hopefully inspire people to make better movies. I made a movie and posted it here 2 days ago, i was told it was bad, i thought it was a good attempt at a video at least. Sure i am up for the idea of the voting vids off or to keep them so i voted yes. No point filling the place with crap is there. i lso want to thank cwitts honestly for his reply as i will strive to make better vids and hopefully impress you with my next creation :) you werent very fond of the last

It wasn't listed as being a first movie. Would of been a bit different then. Still felt slow but looking forward to something more from Paddy.... I know you can do some style

I think this would be a good idea to implement this option.
But IMO it should be used careful, not to eliminate any ambitions of newcomers who don't have the posibilities like the (semi-)proffessional or experienced editors.
That's why I fully agree with Doug. |
