to me i like the 50/50 ratio...99.9% (according to nihilanth ;p) of cameras used in tricking movies are done wrong and i tend to agree. with a cam you cant CLEARLY show the full appreciation for a trick unless done correctly...spinning/twisting cams fuck up how the trick is portrayed and then you base your rating of that trick on the way you saw it with the cam. therefore i like the 50/50 ratio...given the fact that the cams are done correctly. first person is a MUST in tricking videos to me...without it its just dumb.

TRicking? Depends if we want to show action: 1st view or cinematic: 3rd  cam!

I'm in favor that runs should be 1st and fs should show the begining in 1st then show in 3rd is there are some details you might miss in 1st :)

Agree with otis+nihilant too :)

It all really depends on the type of movie... For trickjumping movies, I prefer a mix of the two. It sometimes helps to have an outside perspective and it is more enjoyable to watch.

For fragging videos I really prefer a first person view. The only time I think a 3rd person view should be used is if the shot was not in sight or was a shot that couldn't be fully appreciated without an external view.

easy answer for me, recams where first person doesn't add anything or
where the flow of the vid requires it. Aero2 for example had about 75%
first person, recams do not add anything to most of the CPM content,
and the parts where I did use em were either equally interesting in 3rd
as they were in 1st, or they were fastcaps (cuz i wanted to train on
camming a bit) and still I think they're not thoroughly disturbing, but
that might be cuz i don't actively CPM trick myself.

Most of the xx rocket tricks can be shown properly in 3rd person mode,
maybe even better then in 1st person, because I keep in mind that some
of my audience might not be familiar with trickjumping, and thus a 3rd
person solution clarifies most of the tricks better. Ofcourse some
content just screams for 1st person and I tend to leave it at that.
Allso agree with oTis and Nihilanth.

edit and oh. for any scene showing sfx, i'd take recam above 1st person
any time, first person imo should be as clean as possible (which isn't
allways possibe though).

Pretty much said it all, but I'd like to add:  I get sick of seeing too many tricking movies with little 1st person pov.  Fancy cams are nice, but it can get repetitive.

I agree with that.. in trickjump movies you get a better overview with some nice perspectives.

Half half would be good I guess.
On some tricks only first person shows the skill and on some the first person looks messed up while the player flying around looked great in third person.

I clearly must say that i prefer First Person Views. Its not like in the past. Tools like MME make it to easy for everyone to create sick cams. If you compare the movies done 1year ago with today ones the usage of 3rd Person Cams raises up to ~80%. I dont wanna say that i didnt like 3rd Person cams, but i miss the big "WOW"-effect nowadays. An author should use his brain more often. In cinema movies it costs weeks maybe months to find the perfect cam angle showing the scene in an extraordinary way. I would like this in game movies too. A little bit more intelligence please. I dont wanna feel sick again because of the "1 million" -spins. :|

IMHO first person view shows the skill needed for the trick better but camera view is better in showing the great distances that are overcomed. But even in long distance tricks the camera should be switching from first person view to camera view. If that is done good it might look quite cool :)
