;)
Pretty nice movie, it created very fast a nice atmosphere and the music fits to the frags.
+ editing (very nice choice of colors, contrast) + Music (it was like a real movie and it fits to the happening on the screen !) + creativity + finns +- frags (too much primary flak for my taste tbh)

Downloading high res, edit later...
Jarnul type of music :) +/- Frags + Editing ++ Timed paths with rypel cam + A bit too corny in some places (the normal Jarnul way) - Intro and outro didn't have anything new that I was waiting for -
You could've made better "temporal & jarnul movie" logos mate :D (plain text and a background + camera movement)
Overall: Very very nice :) everyone should see this

This is the way fragmovies should be made. Watch & learn.

I really like the colors, the cameras are excellent and that's why it doesnt bother me that there are so much of them and the effects are awesome. The music is just superb. Together these things create a cool and laid back athmosphere that makes you feel good and ut2004 look like a fun game.
The only bad thing was that I had seen like 80% of the movie before. But then again it's not jarnul's fault that I kept downloading those avis ;| Oh and some frags were a bit average.
But anyhow this movie is easily one of my favorites.

Pros: -great editing, original effects, playing with DOF -nice colors, that makes it like a real movie in a cinema -nice cams, nice POVs -many original idea (editing, sounds, etc.) -unique feeling -great soundtracks(good-bad-ugly rocks)
Cons: -cams with interesing cuts sometimes make not understandable what happening -that "frag" message was a terrible idea for me.Shouldnt change the original -no ingame sounds.UT have great ingame sounds, thats a very big fault to not record it. -at the good-bad-ugly soundtrack, I think you should show some slow scenes, over that slow music
I'm a quake player, cant say anything about the frags.Quality is good for me(low version). Overall, great movie.Good Job!

- X-MAS movie
- Few Minutes Novells
- PLACEBO
- PLACEBO 2
- Quake Lessons

To be honeset I thought it was too much. I'm not a UT player so I'd probably have hard time seeing what's what even without all the fireworks going off and confusing campaths.
That being said... It was pretty damn beautiful work. The effects came in with such frequency that I had hard time concentrating on them all but I still acknowledge that they were all quality stuff. A lot of them also looked really fresh. I also liked the music.
I really hope the effects for jarnul's next movie will be used in a more coordinated fashion. Perhaps not as frequent or make them partly more subtle. More than anything I hope the next movie would be about Quake :P |

| First of all: Thank you for this fine fragmovie, jarnul. Damn, it's absolutely awesome in many ways. Now, where to start?
+ + + Creativity
Who could have any bad words left for the creativity point of this movie? I have none. I'd say it sets new standards in terms of creativity but then again... who could (or want) keep it up with it? The work you put in some scenes (camflights, effects, syncing etc.) is beyond my abilitites, beyond my motivation and - in some points - even beyond the useability of frag presentation. What I'm trying to say: At some points this movie is a mad rush of undoubtful great ideas and very good editing skill. There's so much nice stuff going on there, the effects would do enough for two or three frag movies. Man I tried something very similiar to the scene starting at 3:24 once but compared to your result mine looks so stiff... oh man, I'm getting a rush of blood to the head while thinking of it. I could mention many more effects like the disappearing of the flying corpse on 9:18 and all the nice rypelcams but I should stop here. Very, very well done! Great effort.
+++/- Editing
Here is also a little minus. More a half of a minus because the editing is almost flawless. It is very good in syncing, very fresh effectwise and there are only some small issues like you forgot to turn off the xEmitter-symbols on the flares on campgrounds or you record a clip with red brightskins while every other clip has white brightskins or we can see a single frame of "jarnul movie" in the very beginning -- stuff like that. Nothing really important and maybe not even recognized by most of the viewers. I'm making (far worse) movies myself and see every little mistake you can do when recording etc. Still, these are avoidable mistakes and the whole movie suffers a bit from them. Also the decision with the "frag"-message is a matter of taste, I guess. I think I know what your intentions were: Keeping the screen clean from random names but still letting the viewer know when a frag happens. I've got exactly the same problem with my movie atm. ;)
++/- Content
Judging really hard here means to call 30-40% of the frags average. If you'd have shown most of the frags the normal way it would have been like "meh". There were also good ones and a few awesome frags but what really helped to make this an interesting watch is the way you edited the poor content. Well, clanmovie politics... everyone wanna get into the movie and you don't dare to say "no!". ;)
[Every upcoming movie which shows another Rankin-Respawnkill at Link/Shockside gets a minus in content right away. ]
++ /-- Atmosphere & Music
I don't like epic intros, so the famous Zarathustra-piece from Strauss isn't the way to go for me. But I love the first minutes of the fragpart with the first audio line. Sounds fresh, smart and comes together with great effects -- I couldn't ask for more. Later on there is that song from Ennio Morricone for example who felt just wrong for me. That's a matter of taste in general. I missed some ingame sounds as mentioned above but I understand your decision to leave them out. The first soundtrack contains too much different pieces of music, it's incoherent. That's the only big weakpoint of this movie and it was already mentioned: It is overloaded with ideas, overloaded with music and overloaded with different styles. I felt seeing four different movies by the same moviemaker in one sitting. This killed some of the atmosphere for me. I missed the direction overall.
+++ Quality
The quality seems great to me, also in low resolution.
Enough now. Many movie makers could learn a lot from you. You showed UT2004 can still looking really good (or at least you make it looking good). This piece is one of the top UT2k4 movie todate and - without a question - the prettiest. Keep up the good work! |
