Description:
LoGrade's first Halo 1 montage. Inspired by Quake 3 montages like Annihilation, Lyon Connection, and Get Quaked.
Please be gentle! It's my first... surely not my last.
You need the latest version of QuickTime to view it as it is in stunning H.264 codec quality. This is the low quality version too, since I have a double-sized resolution, double-quality (multi-pass) version which makes it a lot easier to see names and subtle details. It's also 300+ MBs in size.
Some comments on it: -All of the footage used, except maybe 2 or 3 clips (2 from a 2v2 CTF on Derelict), is 2v2 TS. So those triple kills are fairly rare in 2v2s, especially when they aren't just grenade spamming. -The TSKs, I know there's a lot of them, are just padding to make some of the better stuff sync up. -There's a couple LAN games thrown into there, but they're against two really, really good players: BAR-Tommy, BAR-OpTiMo -I still have heaps and heaps of footage, some better stuff that I didn't get to put in. But since this is my first montage, I wanted to get some criticism and learn from my mistakes. So I'm saving some stuff for later. No need to splurge on my amateurish first montage.
The music, which I forgot to list in the credits, is: Intro: "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" from the Kill Bill Vol. 1 soundtrack. Highlights: "Hip Hop" by Mos Def Intermission/Classical part: "Berceuse" by Budapest Symphony Orchestra Outro: "The Forest" by Controller 7 Extra-ending: "Duelling Banjos" from the Deliverance soundtrack.
My next 'montage' might be just a pure grenade trick and movement trick video because that's what I wanted to include in the first one... but that vision was just a little too grandoise and beyond my grasp with this one.
I guess, in all actuality, this is a "test" or "alpha" montage. Hopefully it inspires some of you guys to be more creative in your approach.
One last thing: I busted my ass making this, spent hours upon hours going through more than 20 hours of footage. I made multiple versions and multiple sequences and this was my 'best effort'. Please be fair in your criticisms.
I'm going to a metal concert (Opeth and Nevermore!!!!) in Tampa (a 5 hour drive from where I'm at) today, so I won't be able to respond to PMs, emails, or IMs for a day or so.

Cool to see ppl still playing halo 1, which imo takes much more skill than h2 ;\
Content was very good, although somewhat repetitive. Showed many Melee kills which looked like you hit the enemy several times very fastly, some glitch or am I seeing things? If it is I would like to know how to do it ;)
For some clips it seemed like they started and ended so fast I didn't even know what happened.
Music not my personal taste but I found it tolerable, and seemed fitting for the movie.
Good vid for any halo 1 players, but otherwise most people wont understand the difficulty of most of the kills.

The double-hits are glitches. You melee, then throw a grenade, and you can instantly melee again. It's real tricky to get used to and dangerous to yourself (because of the grenade).
Yeah, a lot of the clips were extremely quick because I was getting sloppy when it came to syncing up the song. I cut here and there from clips and the less desirable ones were edited poorly. |
