You need Half-Life (non-Steam) with the 1.1.1.0 patch, the Adrenaline Gamer mod version 6.3, and the demos: boot_camp & stalkyard.
To run the demos: put them the "aghl" directory, then start Half-Life with the "-console" parameter (to get the console), activate Adrenaline Gamer, go to the console and type "viewdemo [demo_name]". |

Well, i'm not saying I was the best, but that garpy wasn't.
I will download the "demo" and watch it again because If i remember, garpy vs lynx = fucking noob match without any interest
Let me copy past what I already said on the forum.
"Those 1on1 are probably the worst 1on1 ever seen in the HL history, they are so over rated etc.
First of all, you have to know that garpy wasn't the best HL player, he was just the only one to get sucked up by Eddz (who is pretty bad) and KIA's TEAM (all uk guys) who were saying everywhere he was the best.
Second, garpy was the only one to play seriously the 1o1's.
Third, there were NOT any official 1o1 league or cups except the "best of the best xx" which was totally fucked up because the best players didn't want to play it. Why? Because it was organized by a div5 team who decided to invite all his noob friends and the most recognized players, not the best.
And of course, you have to know that HL (AG in fact) had probably the best FPS level compared to EVERY FPS 3years ago. Then, every one stopped and concequently the level since these 3years is totally skewed.
Moreover, it's inconceivable to play HL again nowadays because it's a noob community who knows nothing about what HL is and take pleasure in its mediocrity and stupidity, and of course, steam totally fucked up every HL mods with bugged physics/sensitivity.
Unfortunatly, there aren't any good HL movies, because the record system was pretty bad and created some lag compensation/Freezes/Sentivity bugs.
If you wanted to know what HLDM was, you had to play it 3years ago and watch the clanbase noobcups or the HLCCL (main league) between the best teams like D/PC/PMERS.
Again, you won't find any good demos from them :/"
Edit : Just watched the movie. No crosshair, bad qual, a duel against lax is a joke (as if he was good ?), etc etc.
At least it will be funny to watch people loving garpy's noobstyle, random spam, no aim, and lj whoring.
So, overall a "decent" movie for the gameplay. content 6.

oh yea ur right haha my bad. i thought it was awesome :(
and as far as garpy's avi goes, i was really impressed but I never played HLDM competetively, even though his opponents looked like shit. it was still impressive just because his jumps were precise and he plays very much like a machine- very fast and relentless. if you say hes shit, i'd love to see a good match. on top of that, HLDM avis are few and far between, so we cant be too picky :) |

I'm not saying he's bad, but simply that on those demos, he plays like a noob, with a noob style, which is really not representative of what HLDM can be.
For example, his moves and aim are pretty bad on this movie.
Anyway, even if this movie isn't representative of what was his level, he wasn't the best, and there were some players who were far better than him, like me for example.

I've been taught not to feed the trolls, but I think the situation here needs to be clarified.
I've seen many HLDM duel demos back in the days, and while quite a few players were really good, garpy always stood out for me. His movements seemed perfectly natural and somehow he always had new ways to get that next frag. He was actually creative at the game.
Saying garpy uses "random spam" or has "no aim" is just *obviously* false. His grenades and rockets are always there for a reason. His aim is not perfect but is extremely far from non existent. Oh and there's absolutely nothing wrong with "whoring" the longjump.
Biggy, you can't just say that you are better than garpy, you have to back it up. Post a demo of yours, or keep that kind of claim to you and your kids.
This movie was not made to promote garpy, though it of course does and there's nothing wrong with that. The first objective of the movie is to show what could be achieved in this not-so-known game that is HLDM. Many Quake or Unreal players have never seen a good game of HLDM, this movie can fill that void for the curious out there. I think that as an ex-HLDM player you should appreciate this. |

Then if you wanted to promote HLDM you had to chose BETTER demos and make a real movie.
I know it's REALLY difficult to make a decent HLDM movie due to the lack of demos, but those demos are really a bad choice.
About garpy's level, well trust me, here his gamestyle is a typical noob style:
Double shotgun
LJ whoring
Random spamm
A lot of bad moves on boot
A random mp5 aim.
etc.
So, like I said, if you wanted to promote HLDM, you would have chosen another 1o1's.
Now, about what I said, well it's not pretentious if I say I was probably the best AG aimer with a "nearly" perfect bow/Gauss aim and the best mp5 aim.
And of course, as you know, HLDM is an hitscan game, so at "high level" the one who got the best aim is often the best. I won't speak about my gameplay, it will be a waste of time, everybody knows that it was solid if not the best.

I stopped playing FPS 3years ago, like 1 or 2 months before everyone stopped AG.
Where can you see me playing ? Well, nowhere.
Why ? Simply because there aren't any other skilled FPS like AG, except QW which is inactive too.
Now, if you don't trust me, I don't care. I'm not ignorant, I know what a good player is, and especially an aimer because I was probably the best one, and even if I for sure lost all my level in 3 years of "inactivity", it does not make me being a "noob".

u can tell us what u want, but with no frag movie or demo here, no one believes u or simply doesnt care, thats for sure! u know, i was the best pong player back then, but 20 years of being inactive screwed up my skill... ;D

i did not play hldm seriously (just like any other game), just a few times on LANs my friends, it was just some n00bs having fun...
i was really impressed, i first noticed the vid on esreality.com, the description was like "the best hldm player ever playing against 2 of the best players..."
the best players, pah! it looked like those were bloody n00bs, caged in the tiger´s cage, trying desperately to safe their asses, but there is no place to hide... omg, what a hacker!!! i really had my fun watching! those gauss kills through the walls came really surprising most of the time, but biggy might state he could have done this much better and that im a n00b, well i still dont care...
what i liked most was the fact that it shows 2 whole matches the demo way, no effects, no music... just skills, nothing else required here imo! however, i had some wierd issues with the playback, it was horrible to watch: my screen was flashing all the time, i used VLC - really dont know what is causing it!
when im on 1on1s at games i play, im doing good at the beginning of the match, but my concentration drops after about 10 minutes and im in a "cooldown"-phase. well, garpy seems not to have any problems like that: he seems to be focused all of the time, without making major mistakes or letting his opponent get stronger!
thats just how it looks to me, a hldm total n00b! |

| O.K got to put my two cents in and bookmark this thread.. One thing is funny I seemed to see many clans and people transfer to steam playing half life and ag without any difference then won days. Althought you can get higher fps ect in steam. The only thing I did noticed that in my opinion all those extremly unbelievable people that seemed like they were cheating. But everyone believed they weren't on old won.. didn't seem to be in steam versions of HL. I was maybe half as good as I am now back then.. But I didn't get owned as bad when I went to steam. In my opinion steam just weeded out the good players from the cheaters.. I mean marjority of about 70% of the clans I knew came over to steam no problem. But vac even tho it doesn't catch all the hackers. Caught more then cheating death and hlgaurd which was all we had in the won days.. Heck openGL runs way better now then it did in the won days. I can play the old won and the new steam versions there isnt' any difference other then a few config settings you can change.. So I think the reason everyone stopped playing it wasn't because of steam was because most of them cheated.. OH yea I am not saying Garpy was cheating.. Justed noticed that someone said back 3 years ago was when half life was the best not true.. it is the same and steam actually never updates half life only cs and dod.. so still same old hl and AG works on it to there are plenty of people that play it.. so I say, all of you who thinks you are tough and no it all should hop back on because it all still works.. Just your cheats probably don't work any more.. hahahahah lol..... |
