This will work identically for q3... just less "bouncy"
I played both games ctf offense, it is the EXACT same motion... just a slightly different "feel"

Ah, the vid... most excellent idea, and a great tut. Only a year and a half too late *sigh*
Anywho, nice compression ratio, in terms of the goal of the vid... nice to save a bit of time downloading and decoding for something that does not necessitate gorgeous visuals!
Content was well constructed and thought-out, in terms of educating those such as Mud who couldnt strafe if Laraina Bobbet was chasing him with rocket shoes ;)
Cons: - Make a more apparent cursor for the learner to watch - Include a link to the strafeing maps, maybe bill's map as well (for an added challenge) - Um... not exactly sure, but it would appear that someone upped g_speed to complete the pads...

When I completed jumptraining, I used the default speed value of 250. The only command that i used that affected my speed was pmove_fixed 1. The value of 1 is standard for quake III trickjumping. As for spawnsen's question, yes, JK3=Q3 engine. Strafe jumping is pretty much the same for both Q3 and JK3. A main difference however, is the fact that in quake 3, you don't have to release your jump button right when you jump to avoid doing a force jump.

Strafe jumping isn't a feature in the Quake III engine that can be turned on and off. It is a glitch (that has evolved to become a part of the game) that cannot be disabled in base Quake 3 or Jedi Academy.
If you are somewhat following the guidelines of Strafe Jumping 101, then you should be experiencing some sort of acceleration. On Jumptraining, if you aren't yet fast enough to complete the map, you will probably not make it much farther than to the first pad. During this time, you will only experience a second's worth of acceleration, which isn't noticable. This is probably why you feel that you aren't speeding up.
It is unlikely that you will be fast enough to complete the jumptraining map before you have spent at least a month practicing strafe jumping daily. The more you practice, the more you will get a feel for what you have to do to maximize the acceleration you get out of strafe jumping.
To practice, I would suggest not using Jumptraining. I see jumptraining only as a way to measure you ability to strafe jump. To practice, simply find a long hallway or field and strafe jump across it several times. Yavin Hilltops (ctf3) is a nice map for this. Also, whenever you play mulitplayer ctf or ffa, always strafe jump. Even if, at first, you feel like its slowing you down, the only way to get better at it is to practice it as often as possible. |

My video used to be hosted at filefront.com. Apparently an own-age or filefront admin removed it =(. Anyhow, the following site also hosts my video. Just scroll down about one page and download StrafeJumping101.zip (56MB). http://www.thebreakfastclubclan.org/downloads.html
