| otis pretty much summed it up, clean editing, good set of frags; music wasn't quite my style but it was synced very nicely. A very nice video overall. |

Maybe I'm the only one that noticed this..
For the filesize, Quality was sub par. Every song execpt for the one featured in a previous quake was used by another video (2 of which were in the badge series).
Some effects were used matching the effects from annihilaton (example of the rob zombie panel at 4:50 and example of the chateau panel at 8:35 even includes the panlines)
The content was great, I'll give you that, but the music and those effects stated above I really didn't like.
Btw joka, I didn't expect you to actually use those effects in another video, I was only hoping you were just trying em out as a learning experience.
also, Don't think I'm totally bashing you or whatev, The work is very nice, Just maybe i expected a bit too much. Is there plans on another?

Great video guys.. the quality, the editing, the originality, the effects; verything was tastefully done. the only thing i didnt like was the z4 thing and the lil twighlight commercial about 3/4ths in, it was done well i just didnt see the importance. but yeah guys, great vid, deff a top 10.

i thought the movie was well done but it certainly isnt a classic, which is unfortunate.
from what i can see you tried to emulate anninhilation to a degree, and it just didnt work.. i didnt "feel" anything until like halfway through the movie, but your already having heaps of feelings evoked after the first minute of annihilation.
the frags were varied and new.. and good, some great frags. however the editing at the start and towards the end had no 'oomph' - the first song chosen which had riffs and beats inbetween orchestral type music just didnt make me feel anything.
you were trying to edit to the beats in the song but the beats just werent hard enough and it didnt work.. i felt like "should i be feeling something now?"
choosing a straight out "fuck you" beat would have been a great musical choice.. something by rob zombie off of american made music to strip by, some nin, razed in black or some recent marilyn manson would have been good places to start.
also the use of the quake2 soundtrack was extremely out of place. i've used it in one of my sof2 movies, but it fit. here, it just didnt.. it was too far in the background, at least with songs with lyrics that are playing in the background they still keep things interesting. you should have kept these tracks at a higher volume if you wanted to use some instrumental music
also some research on the creators of those tracks would have been good on your part. the 1st frack from the Quake2 soundtrack was by Rob Zombie, (the theme) but the other tracks were done by Sonic Mayhem (who did the Quake3 soundtrack along with Frontline Assembly)
I think Sonic Mayhem were assisted on track 10 or 11 on the Q2 soundtrack, but, not on the tracks you chose. The "track 01" was actually the 2nd musical track, titled "Rage" and the other song you used for the Zero4 sequence was called "Quad Machine" (i fucken love that song)
but, it was really out of place. something with some lyrics that would have had a musical payoff when you fragged him infront of the mega would have made a lot more sense and been a lot more evocative.
i have to say also your choice of fonts was really annoying.. i'm a fontophile though, but they were just really out of place also, there was no continuity. some were just plain ugly, or too ordinary..
the font you used for the main title was cool, but the effects around the words "get quaked" made it look really bad. kind of a white/orangey effect? eww..
some of the effects you used were great, but its like nothing was followed through to its full potential. the spinning quake3 logo, etc, were very well done.. but could have been used in a few more ways using layer blending effects (like color dodge or screen) as transitions
but i digress. i hated the font on "this is a new era" - not in that font! it was a good way to pump up the viewer, but it should have been at the start, not at the end..
also as own-age said, the encoding was extremely poor. i'm down in australia and we have download caps (something i wont bother explaining, but i get 6gb a month) and after i download a 355mb file i expect a little more than 13 minutes if you know what i mean..
you should have made sure you got your encoding figured out if your going to release a movie this big. why is annihilation longer with the same video quality for a lot less filesize? this is something you should have researched
i thought the production values and configs were great, but the mastering took away from it, especially at the start. good work, but i think next time you should spend more time on a particular seciton and refine it, the look, the fonts, etc, instead of trying to bring so many elements together when they dont reach their full potential.

Hehe I know you'd whine about how much it would "emulate" annihilaion. We tried not to emulate it to much (or nothing at all) but that was very hard since it's such a good vid and i've watched it like 467 times.
W're really sorry about the quality/size -problem. We had some really hard problems to solve beacause we had compressed our parts diffrently and therefore couldn't put them together with VirtualDub. It ended up with some mix of "Fear and Quake" + xvid compilation :/
About the Q2 and Q3 music: when we found the songs they were named exactly like in the credits!

Manolito: I DLed it with the 100Mb DL link and it worked for me. Very good movie: I didn't expect that quality after the trailer (trailer is quite good, but the vid is really better). It is good to see some cpma frags from time to time (like in the vid). Frags are quite inequal: some quite nice but nothing more on one hand, and mad kills on the other hand (the dm17 airgib when the guy is falling...). Editing is really good (how did you get recam with my cpma demo?), but on some points it seems to be largely inspired from AnnihilatioN (a little too much I think, but at least you didn't take a bad source of inspiration :D). An other reproach is the numerous frags you show twice: ok if you do that for 1 or 2 frags to emphasize them, but you did that on too many one. Don't pay too many attention to my comments, it is only a few points that could be better (vid is in my favorites and I rated it well). In a few words: DL it!

Alcohol is the answer, but I can't remember the question!

Doughboy1er: Demanufacturer was looking more into the video then just a "good, Great, or Terrible" value. After what he's said, I would seriously consider him to be a tester because he doesn't let videos overwelm his senses, he looks at the video from an editors perspective and gives points on what he feels looked good and what he feels didn't fit right. These kind of people help other editors in the long run.
I'd rather get 40 comments like Demanufacturer's then 1000 "omfg insane sick bla bla" comments.

Doughboy1er: It's in my opinion that a font can actually cause me to dislike a video. Say for example: Tribulation. When it first came out I loved it, but to me the use of Comic Sans MS font totally just crapped out the video and made me want to kick Michael Flately in the nuts.
Everytime i see a really bad font used i wanna kill the person :) cause dont forget... video editing is an art style, but so is typography.

lol and i agree with sean.
constructive criticism is much more helpful than a "OMG THAT WAS BADASS!" statement.
"hey what do you think of this?" - "OMG AWESOME" - "anything you suggest that can be changed or made better?" - "NO MAN THAT WAS AWESOME" - "thanks for your help... :/ "

Ok where to start... Thank you for all your comments! That's what keeps us going. Critiscism is also welcome.
First of all this reply represent my thoughts, not anyone elses, keep that in mind and don't badge JoKa if I say things wrong.
Second I can only comment on the parts of the vid that I did. This is because me and JoKa didn't cooperate close enough. I didn't even see his part through before we released the vid. This is because #Twilight.Pictures is kind of new and this is our first vid released together. I don't really know why it got so hyped up, to be honest it's my first public Quake 3 vid, felt kinda strange to have huge expectations this first time :o.
Now, when AnnihilatioN was introduced with other angles than FP does that make me copy it when I use it as well? No I don't believe it does! Same to the music syncing, I believe a good vid has to have music sync to a certain extent, (remember this is about my part of the vid). Same thing is that I have never heard any of the songs I used in another vid (not that I have seen a lot though). I just want to emphasize the fact that I think originality is the best thing a video can have! I have in no way tried to redo/copy any other vids effects or style. I try to create my own.
Ok I think I'm done with the excuses now. You have pointed out the two things I'm worst at, Compression and Music. I just can't figure codecs out, I hate them! :/ Music is also a big problem to me, I have like the hardest time finding any good songs to use, suggestions are always welcome!
As for the fonts. It's a personal preference I guess... Could have been better though I don't think they were bad!
Own-Age AnnihilatioN was a great vid. Still I don't want to copy it! Practice makes perfect, clearly I haven't had any. I'm sorry that I couldn't meet your expectations, I'll do better next time.

yes, thecamel, I understand what your coming from, maybe you didn't make the sections I stated were "lacking originality" I remember helping joka (he specifically asked how I made it and whatnot) with how to make the 2 peices in question.. but I figured it was for own reference and not to be produced in a video.
Of course a video with 3rd person or a different camera is not the same.. BUT using an overlay, video filter EXACTLY like a previous video IS not original.. It would be like me creating a video with the badge 2 style editing (flashes on panels and text flashing throughout) If I did that, The only comments I would be getting would be "Ripoff" and in no way would I consider that an original video.

This is true, But you never see a video with bad compression the opposit way.. meaning you never see a vid thats 8 minutes long and only 80 megs or something.. Funny thing is a video like that would still be higher quality then most that are put out thats 2 times the size

I saw the whole vid now, and i gotta say it's really really good, definately a top-3 quake movie in my eyes.
The synchronization between music and frags are just great in the intro sequences. Some of the frags in the movie are really amazing, mixed with really good frags :>. The fast pace of action, along with effects and great camera angles just made this movie really entertaining to watch. I liked the scenes where the colors were kinda faded, and the "grainy" effect in some scenes looked gr8.
The music is also good, although generally not my cup of tea. I have heard that Evanesence (or however you spell it) tune in several fragmovies, so that one could have been exchanged for smth more original.
Quality was flawless. I have good connection, so i cant really whine about compression either :>
"I'd rather get 40 comments like Demanufacturer's then 1000 "omfg insane sick bla bla" comments." <-- although constructive criticism is good, noone would ever make a second movie if they only got comments pointing out what's bad about it. If you gonna point out what's bad, also point out what's good. Not like "i like it, but this and this and this sucks really bad". Can be hard to absorb those things as good criticism.
